Review: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (Trilogy)
So when Christmas came around, I started thinking to myself I was old enough to play some real shooters. Of course, Call of Duty came to mind. I started playing the original Modern Warfare, I loved it.
WARNING: Massive profanity will be used during this, as all Call of Duty games are Australian Classified MA-15+
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare took a new feat, with Infinity Ward taking in a setting outside of World War II. Was this a good decision? It certainly had the smarts for Game of the Year in 2007. Set approximately 70 years after the Call of Duty WWII era, you take the position of John 'Soap' MacTavish, a brand new recruit in the SAS for the Second Russian Civil War. Humorously, his new nickname amongst the SAS is F.N.G (Fucking New Guy), Your accomplices; John Price, Gaz and Nikolai set out to assassinate Victor Zakhaev.
During this, you will come across many enemies to run and gun, crouch and knife in certain instances. Killing them will let you move on safely, and will allow your teammates to follow you. In every Call of Duty game, you kill someone, and you are allowed access to their gun. This can be pretty useful, just in case your gun has run out of ammo, or they've left some guns around and you need to blow up their tanks with an RPG.
There can be many waves of baddies, so it can get really shitty for you in the long run. Luckily there are checkpoints after you move up, or take down that helicopter. Still, Infinity Ward gave a great performance, and the voice acting and expression in the AI was just icing off the cake.
I'm giving Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare:
Score: 9/10 Coins
Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, DS
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a 5-year later scenario, where you play as two characters, mainly Gary 'Roach' Sanderson and James Ramirez. You pick up from where the story does, as Joseph Allen, gone undercover with one of Zakhaev's old assistant/bodyguard; Makarov. However, after a giant massacre at an airport, Makarov shoots Allen in the head, leaving Commander Shepard with the help of Roach and Captain MacTavish, previously playable in the last game. The usual goes the same, but the HUD is actually different. It took me a while to adjust, but the same controls are in play here. A new feature is auto-targeting after using the scope, it will automatically lock on to the next thing in sight that you can shoot. It's all the same, but now is the new 'Spec Ops', a special campaign based on survival of waves of enemies, which you can play with co-op.
It's very much the same, but with the Spec Ops, it adds that special touch. Just like with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare:
Score: 9/10 Coins
Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Call of Duty: MW3 picks up where the last game does, Soap is injured and you need to play as Yuri, a friend of Nikolai's who hates Makarov enough to kill him. But Yuri has a dark secret too. You also play as an American soldier who are trying to save America from invasion. A good thing that they decided to put in the game is playing with the MI6 in an effort to stop Makarov. It's all very awesome, but many people will be confused by the cutscenes, I pay close attention though. Russia is invading every country in honour of Zakhaev, and this went on in the last game too. I like how the put in some special missions where you go to snipering, and just like in the first Modern Warfare, kill a lot of dogs. I have nothing against dogs, but in this game they complete bastards. But nobody really gives a crap about the single player campaign once they reach the multiplayer. Most of my time however was throwing knives at chickens in cages. Cruel, yes. Fun? Absolutely. It's good for aiming man! Spec Ops makes it's return, and I think it was more intuitive this time around. I'm giving Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3:
Score: 10/10 Coins!
Score: 10/10 Coins!

Developement: Rovio
Unlike I said last week about me reviewing some Rovio games, I decided to do a new segment!
Rovio made it strong with the Angry Birds series, flinging birds at pigs, how did they ever come up with this?! Rovio had produced and published games before in the past, but who knows where they came up with Angry Birds from. Bad Piggies is the official spin-off of Angry Birds, taking the pigs point-of-view with constructing safe vehicles. How did they come up with this! Rovio's success with the Angry Birds universe has given them plenty of opportunity's for marketing, fame and most definitely, the money.
Review: Call of Duty: World at War
Treyarch made Call of Duty: World at War from the Modern Warfare gaming engine, but naturally they put their own twist on it. You play as two sides of the perspective of the combatants of World War II; the Russians against the German and the American facing the Japanese. The Russian Soldier; Dimitri is a pretty good sniper, and damn well is favored by his captain/friend. The American Soldier; Miller is mostly good at everything, especially burning things alive with a flamethrower. On hours log, I probably used it for 3 hours. The game is very hard, even on Normal difficulty. This was one of the Call of Duty I couldn't complete. Still, Treyarch did an excellent job, adding in the flamethrower was a very nice touch. Burning down the trees for snipers, or burning the grass for those banzai attackers who try to stab you. Before they try to stab you, stab them with the melee button.
I'm giving Call of Duty: World at War:
Score: 7/10
Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Windows Mobile
Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies
Black Ops revealed a reboot of the Nazi Zomies from World at War as a barracading mode. Now it's a sole game on the iOS. Of course, this won't be a thorough review, but the basic premises is to kill the zombies that break in your bunker, and as you kill them, you can earn points for more guns, more areas and more ammo. Once zombies break through, you have to repair the door, but this takes some time, and the zombies might come at you from behind.
I'm giving Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies:
Score: 6.5/10 Coins
Platforms: iOS, Android
Price: $7.49 (iOS), $2.99 (Android)
Game Dictionary for Noobs: Motion Control
Motion control uses motion of you hand or any body part to control what's on screen. The Nintendo Wii was the first console to use a motion controller, and everybody was into it. Soon, the PS3 wanted to make use of that kind of technology. They created a device called the Playstation Move. A glowing orb on top of the motion controller was used to detect the motion itself from the Playstation Eye. The Kinect came along with advanced technology to detect body nodes on a camera. However, this wasn't the first time Motion control had been used like this. On the PS2, a device called the EyeToy had games called EyeToy Play, which used motion capture as a controller.
Did you guess the game for this week?
It was: Amazing Alex! Released earlier this year, Amazing Alex took you in the point of view of Alex, who is a young inventor. The game was created inspired by their own creation. It was also created by Rovio, who was this weeks Development!
Thank you for an awesome few months! Have a happy new year, and may your games be more than a 7 star rating! 2013 will be awesome for games!
